Chiang Rai is the northern-most province of Thailand, and is about 785 kilometers north of Bangkok and 180 kilometers from the city of Chiang Mai. Enveloping the Kok River basin, the province of Chiang Rai covers an area of approximately 11,678 square kilometres with an average elevation of 580 meters above sea level.
